Our team builds business applications with both ASP.NET Core and Laravel, and clients often ask which one to choose. Both are mature, secure and productive. The best choice usually depends on your existing systems, team and hosting more than on raw features.
At a glance
| ASP.NET Core | Laravel | |
|---|---|---|
| Language | C# | PHP |
| Typing | Strong, compiled | Dynamic (with optional types) |
| Performance | Excellent, very high throughput | Very good for most business apps |
| Hosting | Windows, Linux, Azure, containers | Almost any Linux host, shared to cloud |
| Speed of development | Fast with good tooling | Very fast, great conventions |
| Best fit | Enterprise, Microsoft ecosystem | Startups, SaaS, SMB portals |
When ASP.NET Core is the better choice
- You already use Microsoft tools: SQL Server, Azure, Active Directory, Dynamics
- The application is large, long-lived and benefits from strong typing
- You need very high performance or complex background processing
- Your in-house team knows C#
When Laravel is the better choice
- You want to launch an MVP or SaaS quickly
- You prefer affordable, flexible Linux hosting
- You want a rich ecosystem out of the box: queues, auth, billing, admin panels
- Your team or future hires are PHP developers
Performance in practice
ASP.NET Core is one of the fastest mainstream web frameworks. Laravel is slower in benchmarks, but for most business applications the database, caching and code quality matter far more than the framework. A well-built Laravel app comfortably serves large audiences.
Ecosystem and tooling
.NET offers Visual Studio, Entity Framework, first-class Azure integration and excellent debugging. Laravel offers Eloquent, Livewire, Horizon, Cashier, Filament and a very productive developer experience. Both have strong communities and long-term support releases.
Hiring and maintenance
Think five years ahead: who will maintain this app? PHP developers are widely available and often more affordable; experienced .NET developers are common in enterprise environments. Choose the stack your future team can support comfortably.
Our recommendation
If you live in the Microsoft world or are building a large enterprise system, choose ASP.NET Core. If speed to market, flexible hosting and a huge ecosystem matter most, choose Laravel. Either way, clean architecture, tests and good documentation will matter more than the framework name.
